December 17th marked the final City Council meeting under Mayor Steve Peterson, whose term will be up at the end of this year. Mayor-elect Brickner spoke to Peterson’s leadership by quoting Ralph Waldo Emerson, “Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail,” paying homage to Steve’s part in incorporating the city in 2001 and his years of public service, after becoming its first mayor. A series of thank yous and gifts were presented by various department directors and citizens, including two separate challenge coins from Police Chief Brian Asmus. After a lengthy meeting, Peterson ended the session as he and his wife celebrated by expelling pop out streamers.
